Dubai Municipality disclosed a Dh30 billion drainage and sewage infrastructure programme designed to handle more than 20 million cubic metres of water daily. The Tasreef project will include more than 6,500 kilometres of drainage networks and more than 5,000 kilometres of sewage networks, with completion scheduled for 2033.

Tasreef drainage project scope and timeline#

The municipality launched the Tasreef scheme in 2024. In June 2025, the municipality completed a Dh277 million sewerage and rainwater drainage network in Nad Al Sheba. In April 2026, the drainage network in Al Quoz Creative Zone was completed. The programme continues drainage projects launched in 2019 covering the Expo Dubai area, Al Maktoum International Airport City and Jebel Ali. The new projects will serve Nad Al Hamar, Dubai International Airport, Garhoud, Rashidiya, Al Quoz, Zabeel, Al Wasl, Jumeirah and Al Bada'a.

Capacity increase and network infrastructure#

The new system will increase Dubai's rainwater drainage capacity sevenfold from current levels. The 20 million cubic metres daily capacity will be delivered through the combined 6,500 kilometre drainage network and 5,000 kilometre sewage network. The municipality announced the plans at the Mohammed bin Rashid Leadership Forum in October 2026.

Completed phases and next areas#

The Nad Al Sheba network, completed in June 2025, cost Dh277 million. The Al Quoz Creative Zone drainage network was completed in April 2026. The municipality has not disclosed the individual contract values for the remaining areas. The 2033 completion date applies to the full Tasreef programme across all designated areas.

Integration with existing drainage programmes#

The Tasreef project builds on drainage infrastructure launched in 2019 for the Expo Dubai area, Al Maktoum International Airport City and Jebel Ali. The municipality has not disclosed the total expenditure on the 2019 programme or the combined length of networks delivered under that earlier phase. The new programme extends coverage to residential and commercial districts not included in the 2019 scope.
