Palm Jumeirah pedestrian bridges under construction, 2027 completion
Two bridges at Shoreline and Golden Mile will carry 2,700 pedestrians per hour and cut vehicle wait times by half.

Construction has begun on two pedestrian bridges at Palm Jumeirah under a joint project by Roads and Transport Authority and Dubai Holding Community Management. The first bridge is under construction near Shoreline at the entrance to Palm Jumeirah, with completion scheduled for June 2027. The second is at Golden Mile adjacent to retail frontages, due in October 2027. Together the two structures will have a combined capacity of 2,700 pedestrians per hour and are expected to serve approximately 16,000 residents.
Bridge specifications and traffic impact#
Each bridge will span 40 metres and feature lifts and supporting facilities. Waiting time for vehicles at surrounding intersections is projected to fall by 50 per cent. The bridges will replace at-grade crossings. Traffic and field studies examining pedestrian and vehicle volumes, land use patterns and mobility requirements informed the site selection. The Shoreline structure is positioned on the inbound approach to Palm Jumeirah, while the Golden Mile structure is positioned on the outbound side. Traffic management measures will be in place throughout construction.
Wider infrastructure programme#
The bridges form part of a March 2025 agreement under which RTA and Dubai Holding will deliver traffic solutions and road network upgrades across 15 areas and development projects in Dubai, with Palm Jumeirah among them. Additional work at Palm Jumeirah includes acceleration and deceleration lanes at six locations. The emirate recorded 178 pedestrian bridges and underpasses by the end of 2025, compared with 26 in 2006, an increase of approximately 585 per cent. The pedestrian fatality rate declined by 98 per cent between 2007 and 2025.
Project delivery and timeline#
Hussain Al Banna, Chief Executive Officer of RTA's Traffic and Roads Agency, said the project reflected a strategic partnership between RTA and Dubai Holding to integrate infrastructure and road network projects with major developments. Francis Gianni, Chief Executive Officer of Dubai Holding Community Management, said the bridges would improve accessibility and connectivity at Palm Jumeirah and support safer pedestrian movement and smoother traffic flow. Construction timelines place the Shoreline bridge completion five months ahead of the Golden Mile structure, with both scheduled for delivery within the 2027 calendar year.
